SUMMARY

Don Lemon, former CNN anchor, was arrested in connection with a protest at a church in Minnesota, facing charges of conspiracy to deprive congregants of their rights and interfere with religious freedom. This arrest follows a previous rejection of charges by a magistrate judge, highlighting the contentious nature of the case. I expect a situation similar to Comey - either no indictment or something pretty quickly dismissed. Courts tend to give a lot of benefit of the doubt to journalists claiming first amendment even if their motivations in being where they are might be mixed and include an element of protesting.

Of course what he was arrested for hasn't been disclosed yet, so I'm assuming its going to be interference with a religious service when I say that.

Washington Post article on this journalist's arrest and detention.

A magistrate judge had rejected an earlier attempt by the Justice Department to bring charges against Lemon and other protesters — an extraordinary reproach of the case against Lemon, a former CNN host. But Justice Department officials had vowed to continue seeking charges against Lemon and had been expected to bring the case to a grand jury this week.

NY Times article:

The charges against Mr. Lemon, a second journalist and two protesters came on the heels of their indictment by a grand jury in Federal District Court in Minnesota. They were charged with a conspiracy to deprive the congregants of the church of their rights and to interfere with religious freedom in a house of worship, reviving a case that was rejected last week by a magistrate judge.
