I think that enforcing guidelines regarding attribution and sourcing factual claims is the most obvious method.

This will be a steep challenge, considering the high charge topics, but if we have a core of members committed to our mission and standards, it can work. We also must have high EQ to understand when others are holding ourselves to these standards as not being personal. Civility and empathy are paramount here. It's the perennial problem. How do you foster an environment where consensus can be challenged, but without platforming bad actors?
This and again, when someone questions a source or asks for one, that we don't take it personally. We are working on the same mission here. Those who are not working towards the same mission and can't handle our standards just won't work out and we bid farewell.I think that enforcing guidelines regarding attribution and sourcing factual claims is the most obvious method.
"You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into" Jonathan Swift, 18th century"No rational argument will have a rational effect on a man who does not want to adopt a rational attitude." ~ Karl Popper, “The Open Society and its Enemies”, p.503, Routledge
I don't think this is true. A lot of people believe stuff because they don't think critically about what they're told. If you point out issues with their position, it's possible they'll think about it and change their mind. The problem is that many people don't want to engage in honest reasoning and simply reject what they don't want to hear."You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into" Jonathan Swift, 18th century

Can you give me 1,2,3 steps how to add. The other forums I have added suggest installing the app. But I see nothing here. Obviously not too internet savvy. So thanks. Or I can have someone add it at a phone store.@morrobay you can now add to your phone screen
Please add "Informative" after "like", the light bulb emoji like you added to PF. I realize the field is already crowded but "Informative" is often my preferred reaction to well written, often new, information. Thanks.@phinds I added skeptical, party and fearful reactions
When you're browsing on a mobile device, there should be some menu within the browser that allows you to add a shortcut icon from your phone's home screen. Can you give me 1,2,3 steps how to add. Thanks. Why not also the "agree" ? I would think that would be particularly appropriate here.@phinds I added skeptical, party and fearful reactions
Can you show me what "agree" is?Thanks. Why not also the "agree" ? I would think that would be particularly appropriate here.
For the account preferences, I think those will affect new threads. For current, you'll need to turn off the watch manually here: https://civicswatch.com/watched/threadsI have emails off in my preferences, but I continue to get emails about threads I am watching. I would like to continue to get the notifications on the website, but get no email notifications at all from the site.
Is there any way to set it up to do that?
Yes, and if we had an "agree" icon here, I could have clicked it to agree with your post.Obviously that is your wood working community![]()
And does that somehow make it a bad idea ???Obviously that is your wood working community![]()
No, and I'm sorry if you took it that way. I was trying to be cute. Agree added. And does that somehow make it a bad idea ???
Thanks. Glad to see that.Agree added.
I also want to note, it's not "public", only visible to members. That little flag thing is a brilliant idea! It helps to understand the individual perspective from which a post is written.
