USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for policymakers, federal employees, scientists, and anyone interested in the intersection of politics and science funding in the United States.

Sadly, I am not optimistic. Republicans control Congress, Trump controls Republicans, and Trump doesn't care. We should still be hammering away at our reps. Maybe we can still make some inroads. Any other ideas?

@BillTre any update on funding?
No clarity from me. Been focused on other things recently.

My rough impressions are that a lot of things are still in some kind of undetermined state. There are many challenges to various defundings. I am retired, so not so focused on this now, but my daughter who has a new job in the forest service (federal). She got fired, then rehired (due to a suit), is "temporally" re-employed, and waiting to find out her job's fate (a decision that has been pushed back by a month). There has been little or no explanation for thee decisions, so nothing is clear. Some say this is intentional since MAGAts want to reduce the morale of science workers.

Some aspects of funding have been pushed back upon by congress (verbally, not with any legislation yet).
These kind of things are all occurring in a very balkanized manner, lots of different actions, affecting different things, in different legal situations, with different possible outcomes.

Personally, i am waiting for elections. The house could flip by changing two seats (I think). This would have big effects.
The budget will also come up in congress soon. It may get blocked for a while to get deals on certain issues. 😵‍💫
