USEFUL FOR

Cultural critics, theater enthusiasts, political analysts, and anyone interested in the intersection of politics and the performing arts will benefit from this discussion.

Trump appointing himself chairman of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts might make Roman emperors Nero and nephew Caligula blush at the hubris. At least Nero played a musical instrument and Caligula "Little Boots" could sing and dance with abandon.

This move emphasizes that Trump knows he only pretends to be an executive after portraying one badly on 'reality' TV.

I'm still not entirely sure what the strategy here is on this. What does Trump gain?
Offered without citation: Born in Queens, sort of the outskirts of NYC, on the way to but lacking the cachet of Long Island, old Don sought recognition and acceptance from Manhattan's bright people epitomized by the symbol of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Despised and ridiculed or, worse, ignored by intelligentsia, old Don marshalled the dreary masses to recreate himself as God-Emperor of NYC culture. Not understanding Art or humor, installing himself as chairman of the board of directors fulfills his fervid fantasy of revenge on his betters.

Little has changed in human nature in two thousand years since Emperor Nero strutted and plucked a lyre while Rome burned.

Washington National Opera may move out of Kennedy Center due to Trump ‘takeover’

Ticket sales were about 40% unsold compared with before Trump declared himself chair, said Zambello. Many have decided to boycott the center. Every day she receives messages of protest from formerly loyal members of the audience, she says.

“They say things like: ‘I’m never setting foot in there until the “orange menace” is gone.’ Or: ‘Don’t you know history? Don’t you know what Hitler did? I refuse to give you a penny,’” she said.

“People send me back their the season brochure shredded in an envelope and say: ‘Never, never, will I return: while he’s in power.’”
I'm in the same boat as the others. My wife and I used to go to the Kennedy Center several times per year but I won't set foot in there now. My wife has been a member of a group that goes to those Operas so she still has tickets. If they move, she won't go again either.

And, it's official.

Washington National Opera cuts ties with the Kennedy Center after longstanding partnership

I am very happy about this. My wife is part of a group that attends the WNO performances and we really struggled with whether she should attend last year. In the end, she choose to attend the minimal number in order to stay with the group. Thankfully, we won't have to walk into that place anymore while that dirtbag's name is on the building.

Speaking of his name on the building, his board voted on putting his name on the building and less than 24 hours later, installed it. Clearly they had made the decision long before since it would have taken a lot more than 24 hours to order and receive the lettering. :sneaky:

Again, hardly surprising. A mix of billions, senility, the naked king's suit, an amoral and sexually perverse little mind have created a sociopathic criminal ego.
This monster has been getting away with EVERYTHING for 8 decades, he's not goingbto stop now.
And no, he doesn't have his "own morals" just a lack thereof.
