Breaking News: NATO Hunts Russian Submarine In Norwegian Sea After Possible Threat To US Aircraft Carrier
On August 27, 2025, NATO intensified anti-submarine operations in the Norwegian Sea after reports of a Russian submarine threatening the US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, as reported by the Norwegian News Agency Dagbladet. This is located in Zapadnaya Liza in the Murmansk Oblast, just about 60 kilometers from the Russian border with Norway. Satellite images showed none of the submarines in the port, at least until August 25th. After that, weather conditions made image analysis difficult.

Former British naval officer Tom Sharpe interpreted the flight tracking service's data as a sign of success, telling The Daily Mail: "It looks like they've found a Russian submarine and are working on it heavily. This is NATO's way of signaling, 'We see you.'" According to The Daily Mail, many other aircraft switched off their transponders to conceal their position. "NATO is showing they're in control," former Royal Navy submarine commander Ryan Ramsay also told the newspaper.
