Lack of media input dialog box for posting videos.

What do you mean by dialog box? The unfurling? It is dependent on the site accepting it. A ping goes out to the site. If they don't have the necessary information or block the request, there can be no unfurling box.

What is the media icon? Can you post a screenshot?

You can normally just drop the video URL without bothering with the media control button. The media button is beneath the dots, right to the image button. But you are right, it doesn't change anything.

Add the mouse pointer to the media button. It isn't contained in the screenshot, but it was where I was with it. Also, I tested this in edit mode.
