This is from South Park so I'm not sure it qualifies. I tried to find a still without the F-word but that turned out to be impossible as true to South Park it's saturated with it. Lemme see if this is gonna get me a warning. Remember it's "art":

EDIT: Yeah, OK. I could have turned the subtexts off. Ah well... then the point would have been lost.

OK. Last one. I couldn't stand for this one. This time I stopped it right before the subtitles, but I'm sure you can guess what he says (even though we know it's a flagrant lie!). And sorry, I'm genuinely done now.

@BillTre : "Informative" even?! That took me by surprise! ;)

Aren't it more about not wanting to give up Western Europe, being able to intimidate Russia and Turkey. Well maybe not Turkey, that's where they have their ICBMs isn't it? Do you have them in Germany too?

I read it wrong initially so you're obviously right, but maybe they have more reasons.

EDIT: https://www.defensenews.com/global/...-becoming-europes-strongest-military-by-2039/

The stated aim of the German military is to become the strongest conventional fighting force in Europe by 2039.

EDIT3: OK, this didn't really belong here. I just answered @fresh_42 's post and it kinda got out of hand.

I don't think so. That may be written on the label, but it isn't the real reason.

Yes. I think there are even nuclear, American ones, but I'm not sure.

Here are the main facilities listed:

It's not as if we speak about some German soldiers in the Baltic. Particularly, their military hospital is a crucial feature. Top equipped, and far closer to the Middle East or Afghanistan than mainland USA. And Wiesbaden is the headquarters of all European and African operations. They won't shut down those, but the withdrawal will change the mood in the population. Not the population around American garnisons, as they profit from them, but in the general public. Mine, for example. Why should we allow Russian spies on German ground? Why tolerate soldiers from a country that is waging a trade war against us, constantly insulting us, and that is less reliable than Putin, Kim Jong-un, or Xi? Is the USA threatening to leave NATO? Good riddance! Their reliability is completely lost anyway. We are better off without them.

The strongest conventional forces? What does that mean? If you disregard France and Great Britain, then maybe. I mean, we have the largest population. But they explicitly call it a goal to be discussed by the public. Such headlines are more politically motivated than an actual plan. The problem is that our military is currently in a miserable state, and they try to change this, given the new old threat from Russia. It is not as if Germany hasn't been occupied at times. Ask the French and the Swedes. And the Russians behaved badly here in and after WWII. You wouldn't invite them. But nothing to worry about, dear neighbor. Fifteen years is a long time in a democracy. I wouldn't bet on it, in case you're considering calling your British bookmaker.

Oh yeah, the Turkish are definitey nuclear capable. Tellingly Germany is in for it this year:

The logistics of stationary ICBMs are complicated though. If they still use liquid oxygen (which I actually doubt) they'd have to empty them and fill them up again on a rotary scheme as oxygen is extremely corrosive. You can't just leave that in a rocket.

OK, admittedly it doesnt say nuclear-capable anywhere but with all the various types they're deplying (including the supersonic ones), and the tactical nukes getting smaller and smaller I wouldn't be so sure. I'm surprised that Germany agrees. But who knows how much leverage the US have over Germany since WW2?

Although I dare to disagree. I suspect the democracy works fine on the state level but the federal level is clearly as mess. Then again I'm not an American and not an expert in the American process.
