The US is an unreliable ally, so Saudi Arabia just signed a nuclear defence pact with Pakistan

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Saudi Arabia has signed a comprehensive nuclear defense pact with Pakistan, which includes provisions for military support. This agreement reflects a shift in alliances, as Saudi Arabia seeks security assurances amid perceived unreliability from the United States. The pact raises questions about the implications for North American defense, particularly regarding Canada's reliance on US military support and the potential need for Canada to reassess its own defense strategies in light of changing geopolitical dynamics.

Asked whether Pakistan would be obliged to provide Saudi Arabia with a nuclear umbrella under the pact, the official said: “This is a comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means.”

Maybe Canada should be reaching out to Pakistan too. Even in better days, we all know that the US would be less likely to stick its neck out for Canada compared to the Saudis. If they're jumping ship...

Well, you're still in the Commonwealth, aren't you?

We don't have protection under the UK nuclear umbrella. I like France's attitude on things. "Dissuasion du faible au fort" - deterrence from the weak to the strong - has a great ring to it.

"We don't need a massive military, we just promise to hit as many of your non-military, soft, civilian targets with all of our nuclear weapons if we are seriously threatened."

Any reason Trump castigates NATO, rather than NORAD?

Why did Carney announce a purchase of over horizon radar for the north, and express a desire of being part of the missile shield proposal of Trump? The integration of US-Canadian forces is not something known with the general public.. The political BS is for the home audience (Canada or US case may be ) for something to chatter about as if they ( CBC in Canada ) now feel in on the loop.

Canada is maritime protected by fiat, through US forces om the west coast - Alaska, Hawaii, north west states - on the east coast - Greenland(Denmark), eastern states.

Any major attack on Canada ( not a strategic use of war resources to take over NA ) would be an attack on the US, or at the very least a test of US defense capabilities. The US uses Canada as a northern defense land mass - missiles over the north would necessarily be shot down fall onto Canadian soil, and with a good guess, fall onto Canadian populated areas. At least that was the cold war scenario if it played out 'correctly'.

For North American security the US has Canada as a northern buffer zone, and in turn the US provides Canada with protection with its vastly superior defense capabilities. Canada gets implied defense on the cheap and the US is (was) happy with that.

US and Canada scramble fighter jets to intercept Russian military planes off Alaska

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said it had detected and tracked two Russian Tu-95s and two Su-35s operating in the Alaskan Air Defence Identification Zone. They did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace.
