CNN article: Trump says Ukraine-Russia peace talks looking at ‘dividing up certain assets’

I find it hard to know what to say. It gives the impression that Trump is effectively asking Putin for a share of the invasion spoils as a bribe to keep out of his way. Could it really be that bad?

I think the mineral deposits are in Russian controlled territory.
I didn't read the article, maybe it is in there.

Been there, seen that: Molotov-Ribbentrop.

Any territory awarded to Russia will be seen as a win for Russia. This is handing them a victory and incentivizing future aggressions.

Thanks. On that basis it's possible that he hasn't specifically talked about dividing it between Russia and the USA, only with Ukraine. But even that would of course be rewarding Russia's aggression.

It seems clear that Trump wants to appease Putin, not stop him. And we all know how that went in the 1930s.

The US sure is doing a lot to help Russia these days.
The United States "will help restore Russia's access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports, lower maritime insurance costs, and enhance access to ports and payment systems for such transactions."
