Welcome to CivicsWatch!

This is a community of like-minded people who are concerned over the state of liberal democracy in the US and the World. Please mind our democratic and community values on the right sidebar. If you are in disagreement on them, this is not the right community for you. Our mission here is to share and discuss current political events and problem solve for solutions that increase liberal democracy.

We have zero tolerance for disrespect, hate, and misinformation.

We've only just started up, so please be patient with any issue and community policies. Thanks!

Same, I deleted FB two months ago, as did my wife. I canceled Amazon Prime and reduced my purchases greatly.

Hello @all!

I haven't canceled my FB account since I don't take it seriously and mainly use it for entertainment purposes. What is wrong with FB? Why did you cancel your accounts? Except that Zuckerberg reminds me of the attitude among Jews at times when Hitler came up. Jews in Germany have been part of an intellectual, mainly conservative middle class. Many repressed the danger, some welcomed the apparent law and order regime. I think a lot about those times these days and not only because of US politics.

Facebook can still profit from your data

Zuckerburg's Cambridge Analytica partnership was key to Trump's first win. He's now also donating money to Trump and mirroring MAGA principles at Facebook.

I will probably cancel it when they delete accounts like

Zuckerberg is an opportunist, as many Jews were in the 30s here. It would be too easy to blame everything on Trump. The problem is far deeper and began, in my opinion, already with the staffing of SCOTUS years ago. And as a stranger, I am surprised about the power the POTUS has. I have learned at school that the American system is based on check-and-balance, but I do not see any balance or even checks.

This is a symptom of a long-recognized problem where Congress, instead of doing its job and making hard decisions, simply passes the buck to the president.

I have learned at school that the American system is based on check-and-balance, but I do not see any balance or even checks.
Checks and balances only work if each branch is willing to assert its power. Unfortunately, members of both parties have been unwilling to uphold their oath to defend the Constitution.

Benjamin Franklin saw the fragility of our form of government in his remark on the form of government the constitutional convention has chosen "A republic if you can keep it."

He went on to say, “In these sentiments, Sir, I agree to this Constitution, with all its faults, if they are such; because I think a General Government necessary for us, and there is no form of government, but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered; and believe further, that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government.”

Amazing forum work Greg :The way all the layers in this system are interrelated and continuous! For sure more sophisticated than I have seen elsewhere. By the way, how long did it take for this task to complete. And how much professional help , if any did you have?
