What's Gonna Happen Next with the Epstein Files?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the anticipated delays in the release of the Epstein files, primarily attributed to former President Trump's tactics of obfuscation and slow-walking information. Participants highlight the potential impact of upcoming retirements among GOP members, such as Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor Greene, on the balance of power in Congress. The conversation emphasizes that a shift in control could restore checks and balances against Trump, especially as dissatisfaction grows among Republican representatives. The urgency for a congressional flip is underscored, with implications for future elections and the handling of sensitive information.

USEFUL FOR

Political analysts, campaign strategists, and individuals interested in understanding the dynamics of U.S. congressional power and the implications of political retirements on governance.

I was quite wrong - I was convinced that if there were anything specifically around Trump that was potentially damaging (as opposed to embarrassing) Harris would have used it in the campaign. Well, there is such stuff, and Harris didn't use it. My guess is she never looked for it. More's the pity - it might have broken through.

Have you read the actual files? A lot of the "allegations" are just nonsense. The files include every whack-job who emailed the FBI or other law enforcement agencies with anything even tangentially related. Some idiot who thinks their teeth are spying on them and that they saw Trump eat babies is given way too much credibility just by being released by the DOJ as part of this process.

How should the Epstein files change anything that his already disgusting behavior didn't change?

After a little reflection, I agree. I am looking at the situation in light of him having already reversed course and lobbied against their release. During the campaign, he was all about the narrative that the Dems were against release and he was for transparency, and he was riding high on being the victim of weaponized justice, so any leak of any of it would have drawn responses of fake news, release it all, all Dems are pedophiles etc. It would have been more fuel for the fire that Trump was being specifically targeted, and if such a leak were to have happened, it would have true that he was being targeted, so not helpful for the campaign.

And you also have a point that even setting all that aside, the ulimate impact is arguably zero going by prior revelations and their impact.

I haven't looked at any of it - I should, if I am going to talk about it.
A lot of it is very mundane.

Some of it is insane.

For example, this document and this document have been cited in media reports and by conspiracists that some sort of "targeted individual" program exists. They are clearly packets of delusions assembled by mentally ill people and sent to law enforcement, but because they have been released by the DOJ, they are now a government document confirming secret mind control programs.

I don't particularly do either, but it is easy enough to search for specific documents when the media or someone is discussing them.

As Trump is enacting his newest major distraction with WW3 (Operation Epstein Distraction), we need to keep pressing on the file release!

Here is a video from an NPR reporter Stephen Fowler on the Epstein files (AKA the Trump-Epstein files).
It is very wide ranging from evidence details to big league politics.
I liked it.

Here's an interesting interview by Heather Cox Richardson with a Congressman (Maxwell Frost, D, FL-10 (Orlando)).

Representatives (at least some) are able to go and see the"unredacted" Epstein files for
a limited amount of time,
with no electronics.
He has made two visits to the location to view the files.
He took the best advantage of this access time by searching for files (file numbers based on a crowdsourcing of many people focused on specific aspects (like locations)). Specific file numbers helped him find determine what he should look for during his limited time.
It gets kind of techy.
He summarizes what he found out. Lots of things still redacted.

Since it involves Trump, its nothing good.

It'll be more attempts at delaying significant releases.

This guy is a virulently anti-Trump former Republican political strategist.
He has a real world political approach. That usually means what is considered important is winning elections. However, he is very offended by Trump's and the GOP's desertion of democracy.
This video is about the kind of moves he expects from Trump to avoid releasing the files. Don't be surprised when it happens.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
