ICE sends man to San Salvador by mistake

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia by ICE to El Salvador due to an administrative error, as reported by multiple news outlets including NBC News and CNN. Participants express outrage over the Trump administration's handling of the situation, highlighting the perceived disregard for Garcia's protected legal status. The Supreme Court's involvement, allowing the enforcement of the Alien Enemies Act for rapid deportations, further complicates the issue, raising concerns about the implications for due process and human rights in the U.S.

As @Borg states above, WaPo and other news sources corrected the initial "proof of life" interview with Senator Van Hollen. Today's article states that Kilmar's home senator was detained by Salvadoran military police while approaching the actual prison. After preparing to leave El Salvador, Van Hollen was invited by President Bukele to meet at his hotel.

I added italics as this meeting became an obvious publicity stunt by Salvadoran President Bukele to impugn Van Hollen's motives.

The senator discussed what he called “margarita-gate” — a reference to a social media post by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele showing two glasses garnished with cherries and rimmed with salt or sugar on the table where Van Hollen and Abrego García sat.
Bukele’s post said the two men were “sipping margaritas.” President Donald Trump joined in on the jab, as did other Republicans.
